The Ultimate in Patient Protection The Gibeck Humid-Flo is a disposable Heat & Moisture Exchanger (HME) designed to remain in-line during medicated aerosol treatments given to the mechanically ventilated patient. This novel device has two operating modes, HME and AEROSOL, which are enabled by rotating the blue collar. When the HME mode is selected, a green block with the letters “HME” will appear in the window and the Humid-Flo will now operate as a Heat & Moisture Exchanger. When AEROSOL mode is selected a white box with “AEROSOL” will appear in the window. In this mode, the HME element is bypassed and a center passageway is exposed allowing the delivery of aerosolized medication. Because the circuit remains intact and does not have to be opened to remove the HME, circuit manipulation is minimized and the risk of cross-contamination is reduced.
